Environment Concept Art
For this school project we had to start with choosing 5 cards. With the information on these cards we had/have to create concept art.
With this environment I just went with the Dystopian and Another Planet. For this particular project we had to start with a blockout in 3D, we weren't allowed to sketch first just build they said. So I did and during the making of the blockout I came up with a story.

Humanity was exploring the universe and one of their exploration ships crash landed upon a desert (Tatooine) like planet. The ship was still functional it couldn't fly them off planet. So they cannibalized the ship to construct a city in the crater in which they landed.

Humanity quickly found out that they are not the apex predator on this planet so they started to organize a militia to protect the settlement. but even though they were in an undesirable situation not all of the survivors united to survive together and a criminal element began to grow in the city. The same militia that was just intended to secure humanity form the outside alien threat now also turned their weapons inward to uphold the Law with guns and fists, changing their name to the Marshals. The peaceful times are over. the people are not free, but free of fear. under the protection of the Marshals. or are they under their jackboot?
I was greatly inspired with the setting of the Mandalorian, because it's basically a western bounty hunter story (of course with a star wars twist in the mix). So a lot of those elements you'll see in my mood/style board.

After finishing this I started with the blockout in a software to which I am new, Blender, I must say that I am very satisfied with the result.

Though during the building process I hit a bit of a snag. I wanted to have some of pretty insane looking thin mountains as seen in the image below. DISCLAIMER!!! I do not own this picture all rights of that picture belong to the creator.
So if I wanted these kind of mountains and I'm not that great with 3D software, I decided to sketch a couple and the results were interesting.
the final renders of the blockout. These were made to see what perspective was interesting to do a draw over with. eventually I choose the last one.

the Paint over Process
First I changed the contrast in the render, which made working with it easier
After that I went on the Internet and searched for a great desert mountain texture.
Once I found the perfect Texture I started to add it into the rend. First with the weird mountains and after that with the big mountains, I also edited the light of the big mountain in the back because I thought it looked to bright.
After I was finished with the mountains I started with the sand. I didn't use a texture for that, I painted all of that myself.
Once I was done with the large parts of the Environment I started to clean it up. By Editing and Smoothing the Crater, I added Vehicle trails in the sand, and I added a large Mountain in the back because there was a lot of empty and boring space. I also fixed the light.
After I finished with the nature of the planet, I could start working on the city called Crater Town. I used a lot of brown because that matches with the surrounding environment and I made it look like dirty and slowly rusting metal. There are also a lot of greys mixed in between which show a more steely metal.
Once I finished with the buildings I added a lot of smoke and dust. Dust to make it look like the wind blows a lot of sand in the air, and the smoke to make the city look busty and over populated.
The large Tower in the middle of the city is the old generator of the ship, transformed into the main energy source of the city (partly inspired by Frostpunk). the light shows that it is working. the tower also functions as a clocktower.
Also I fixed the lighting of the Large mountain in the back. Otherwise it wouldn't fit in with the rest of the picture.
and as the final part for this project I added a Marshal, who is patrolling the area around Crater Town. the Marshal is inspired by Judge Dredd and atheistically by Wild West Exodus. The reason why I added him in is for a sense of scale, and I think this shows that this world is being lived in however undesirable that maybe.
once more the Final product. I had a lot of fun working on this.
