Senior Thesis

Every year Parsons the New School for Design makes there graduating senior BFA Fashion Design students to create at 5-7 look thesis collection to present in front of a panel of prestigious fashion industry people at the end of their senior year. We were given the summer before our senior year to research and conceptually develop our collections and then we have the whole year to design, construct and create our collection ourselves.

I decided to go an unique route and focus on creating a sustainable collection out of used vintage and sentimental materials to construct my collection. Working at a thrift store part time during school I have had experience sorting through a lot of the waste created by the fashion industry and was shocked by the amount of beautiful vintage garments and materials that are discarded because they are somehow damaged or out of current style.  I wanted to come up with a unique and interesting method of giving a new life to these materials as well as celebrating the lives they once had. I gathered my materials from various vintage and thrift stores, flea markets, family and friends and started deconstructing and draping the garments on the dress form and spontaneously cutting, combining, and manipulating the materials on the form to create unique and modern garment that  I believe were more beautiful that I could have ever sketched or imagined.

The following are images from my look book  and line sheet that I had shot and designed for my presentation and portfolio.
