For Westbank’s Italian Days event we set out to create an immersive experience that embodied a new renaissance,
right in the heart of Vancouver.

Piazzas are open public spaces that integrate history, architecture, community and daily life. They are the heart of a city; a place of constant teeming yet composed activity that sleeps only when the city sleeps, framed by the beauty of architecture, where people come to connect for special occasions. Having served this role throughout the city’s history, the piazza is also the soul of its collective memory and the most potent symbol of the city itself. At their centre is typically a fountain, sculpture or monument. This was the seed of our inspiration for the set design of Westbank’s Italian Days event.

The man with heart eyes, David. We recreated a four foot tall sculpture of David’s head, in tribute to the masterpiece of Renaissance by the Italian artist Michelangelo. The exaggerated David’s head was encircled by draped fabric and lush greenery and formed the focal point for a photo booth honoured by the talented @thecollectiveyou .

Through visual story telling, the set design for Westbank’s Italian Days event transported viewers from a rainy Vancouver day into a bustling Italian piazza, contemporizing the traditional community gathering place. A series of sculptural vignettes were situated throughout the space in celebration of the rich artistic heritage of Italy.

Each space was thoughtfully designed to encourage people to linger and take in the beauty of art.
We collaborated with the talents @hanabycelsia on a series of renaissance-inspired floral installations for the event. The flower-filled painting ‘Primavera’ by Italian renaissance master Sandro Botticelli was the starting point for the floral art direction. In the iconic painting lush greenery and citrus trees mingle with a carpet of flowers to create a soft surrounding for the paintings inhabitants.

Flowers and citrus fruit lined the runway built to showcase Westbank’s fashion collection at the event. Floral focal points featured an abundance of fruits, roses and greenery inspired by the richness of renaissance still-life paintings.
