Our final forklift
I was assigned to work in a team to design and build a forklift using either Vex EDR, Vex IQ, or Spike prime. My team ended up going with the Spike prime robot. We first researched in order to see which one of the kits would best fit the design we had in mind. We originally planned to use the Vex EDR robot but we later realized the spike prime was a better fit. We started off by gathering the materials necessary while looking through the instructions which is when we realized we wouldn't be able to make the exact design we had in mind. The design required us to take apart the spike robot bases that were all ready provided to us and we weren't allowed to do that. We went back to brainstorming and realized we could adjust our design by keeping our base and using a pulley system. A lot of times we would either all be working in the makerspace together, brainstorming different ideas, or we would all split up. One person would be working on coding the spike robot while another person would be building, or gathering the necessary pieces. Although we had a lot of challenges along the way I really enjoyed being able to work with my other team mates during this project. I like how I could count on them to be honest with me if I suggested any ideas that were far from our reach, and I enjoyed being able to hear all of their ideas.
