Animal Cruelty

I have chosen the topic of Animal Cruelty - a controversial issue that has been on the back of my mind because I am an animal lover and hence, the idea of abusing animals for humans' use is a huge concern to me.

The power of humans
(the hands are made up of animals that are victims of animal abuse. Some of these animals are highly endangered such as eagle, rhino, elephant due to the result of over-hunting)
The circular patterns behind creates a mysterious atmosphere that further enhances the mighty power of humans over other unfortunate species.
This illustration depicts the abuse of birds in pagodas in many South East Asian countries.
In Buddhism, people believe that freeing captured birds bring good luck and wealth. However, many people have used this belief to make money: birds are captured, starved, drugged and wings are broken so that freed birds cannot fly far away. They are captured back to the cage and the cycle continues for new customers.

This abuse is represented by the first painting where viewers thought that the birds are freed, but viewers instead found out that there are strings tied onto the legs of each birds = represents the imprisonment.
Illegal trading and selling of wild animals on the streets of Saigon, Vietnam.
Abuse of animals in slaughterhouses for meat
Slaughter of animals for their furs and skin to make clothes.
Animals suffering from pain and torture for our entertainment.
Eating dog and cat meat - a popular dish in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and China. Although it is considered as inhumane and forbidden in Buddhism, majority of the Vietnamese population still favour this expensive dish
