Peel Good - Let's get nude with food

The position the world currently finds itself in is a dangerous one. Not dangerous today, or even tomorrow. But 50 or 100 years from now, the world we all inhabit today may not even be able to sustain us. Plastic is a primary reason for this, and plastic in the manufacturing industry poses a major issue for planetary health. Many companies in the packaging industry have taken to an environmentally friendly stance in response to these issues. Nature Fresh Farms, for example, are a company that constantly seeks to improve their products, and ensure maximum compostability by exploring options such as multi-material pouches and single material pouches.

I believe it to be wildly irresponsible to refrain from addressing the plastic issue on both an individual scale, as well as a grand societal scale. Because of this, I have taken the initiative to institute change on both the individual scale and the grand scale by creating a brand and product dedicated to both the individual consumer, and the environment as a whole. This brand is Peel Good. The product is a 100% compostable sleeve designed for the fresh produce sector, which seeks to eliminate the use of single-use plastics in this sector or grocery. It can be said that in today’s market, the consumer is long, and all design choices in made in the name of consumer attraction and subsequent satisfaction, and Peel Good is not different in this regard. Peel Good, through all its design choices, aimed at creating a product that serves the consumer, but also serves the greater environment.

In order to understand how Peel Good has addressed the aforementioned information, it would prove efficacious to analyse the product of which I speak. The product itself consists of a 100% compostable produce packaging sleeve that is manufactured from natural fruit and vegetable waste, namely, the skins. Specifically, the product makes use of the undesirable aspects of fresh produce to harvest both pectin and cellulose and convert these compounds into a durable packaging that after a short period of time, completely degrades back into the natural environment. Due to the packaging’s natural composition, printing on it with ink is not possible. The solution I came to was a 100% compostable sticker label depicting the product content through the use of a visual aid, being a line depiction of a woman wearing a dress made from the peels of the specific produce the packaging contains. The designs of the women, as well as the photography of the various fruit and vegetables they will be wearing, were all completed by me. For the purposes of this project, fruits and vegetables including bananas, carrots, and baby marrows will be used to demonstrate the efficacy of the product. Furthermore, the sticker will contain the brand logo, the tag line and brand message. The sticker will also be stuck on using environmentally friendly adhering products.
