Waterline (2021)

'The space between our selves
and our others
is at once as distant
as the primeval sea,
yet also closer than our own skin.'
(Astrida Neimanis)

Waterline invites viewers to immerse themselves in the fluidity of life's beginnings. Sculptural material refers to mother’s skin as a primary value and the main object of a child's attachment. My aim was to explore significant objects in the infant’s early development, specifically those related to water as an extension of the intrauterine maternal environment — a sea introjected. Within this project, a water lounge chair and an inflatable collar ring became a matrix for the sculptures. The installation is arranged along an imaginary floating water line and its perception is akin to snorkeling: swimming on and through a body of water.
