PROJECT BRIEF:
Pick any inspiration of your choice and recreate its image through appropriate styling and makeup. Write a brief description about your creation.
Being a fan of surrealism and everything surrounding it, Schiaparelli has been a favorite since the beginning. Their (then) latest collection, Spring-Summer 20/21 was an enchanting golden treat for the eyes with a limited, certain and bold color palette dominated by gold. As I looked further into the details for inspiration, the accessories kept on getting more interesting than the last one- earring shaped like ears, nipple plates over the breasts, and my favorite- a gold mask molded according to the model’s face. Forget acrylic nails, Schiaparelli presented us with gilded fingertip covers.
The apparel collection itself was a celebration of women and their strong bodies and one of my favorite pieces was a flowing maxi dress in their signature pink that hung from the model’s earrings. Though it was not possible for me to recreate the exact same look, I tried to get the upper silhouette as close as possible with a fabric of the same color.
The hair and makeup obviously had to be extremely minimal with such maximal bijoux.
My inspired look borrowed the gilded face mask look for a bright spin on the need to wear masks in the pandemic. The round gold wire gave the appearance of an aura and made the look more elegant and ethereal. For the eyes, I made two pieces- one was directly borrowed for one of their eye-wear and the other, an imperfectly shaped eyebrow outline, was inspired. And finally a set of exaggerated golden nails and fingertips with a golden cigarette to add a cheeky element.
Being a minimalist by nature, I couldn’t replicate the loudness in the actual collection but I tried to capture the essence by combining all the elements that made it so appealing to me.
