Inspired by the "Loss", a sculpture by Jane Mortimer featuring a stone figure curled with its knees pulled up to its chest.

For those of us who are generally uncomfortable or unfamiliar with expressing our feelings outwardly, grieving can seem scary or threatening. Many times, we think that if we “allow ourselves to explore those feelings,” we might end up spiraling down a dark hole never to return.

The truth is that grief does not have to be scary; it is part of the healing process and an essential part of our lives.

When we feel overwhelmed, we know that to our right and to our left are the faces of caring, faces of companionship. Joining together, we find our refuge, strength and wisdom. We find our way forward.
