Academic Project
My final project is the extension of our class assignment called as Roman typeface where we had to design a typeface. After designing that typeface I used it as the basic form of my final project which is based on the Jamini Roy paintings. Jamini Roy was an Indian painter. He was honoured with the State award of Padma Bhusan in 1955. He was one of the most famous pupils of Abindranath Tagore, whose artistic originality and contribution to the emergence of art in India remains unquestionable. Firstly I  designed the roman font because without the base building cannot be constructed.

Roman Font
The assignment assigned was to design a Roman Font. This was totally new for me as we had not done any such assignment in previous years. So I decided to construct a Semi Bold Expanded Sans-Serif font. My font also had minor modulation to it. At the initial stage it was very difficult for me to understand the modulation but later on as I did the rough stage by using the calligraphy tools it became much more easier. So finally my font was ready and I named it as RS Semi Bold Expanded. RS because as this is my first font I named it using the initials of my name.
The next step was to make it workable so that we can test it and use it. For this stage we had to construct the font in illustrator first and then in Fontlab. I had to learn this software as well. But it was a great experience and learning overall.

Later I used this roman font as the base font for my final project. My final project is based on illustrative typography. I have designed this font inspired from Jamini Roy’s paintings which are based on Kalighat Paintings.
