Poster Design 2021 Spring

Project Design Process
The project assignment was to design a poster and then animate it for the 2021 UConn DMD Senior Exhibition. I spent some time brainstorming and ended up sketching about seven or eight ideas. My goal was to design something simple, eye catching, and graphically interesting. I used those concept sketches to visualize how I could best put the required written information, catch the viewers attention, along with making the poster visually appealing. I then played around with some of the sketches using Adobe Illustrator and I narrowed the design ideas down to two. One of them contained a variety of fonts and different geometric shapes with writing within the shapes. The other idea had geometric shapes clustered together with larger font used for writing titles at an angle.

After receiving feedback, I decided to go with the second design. Using that design as a template, I tried a variety of fonts, color palates, typeface, geometric shapes, and shape spacing to come up with a nice composition. I also changed the background color from black to a deep navy blue to provide a sharp color contrast making the words stand out.

For the animation, I used Adobe After Effects. I designed the geometric shape blocks to fall down and slightly bounce for visual interest. I animated the three parts of the title to come into the poster from the side. I made two final versions of the project, one with the DMD concentrations in small font and one without the concentrations.
