Commodity Offerings
In the local Chinese context, the imagined afterlife contained in the culture of paper offerings mirrors reality. The objects offered to the deceased can also be seen as the revelation of people's conscious values:the commodity symbolism of modern paper offering demonstrates the desire to achieve a happy life through possession of material wealth. Consumerist culture has gradually replaced the traditionally cherished spiritual values. It has misinterpreted and distorted the purpose of rituals: from reverence for the gods and ancestor remembrance to displaying one's wealth and material pursuits.

This work attempts to satirize commodity fetishes' phenomenon by reorganizing ritualized sacrificial scenes and trying to imitate a process of being invaded by an idealized lofty product image through a series of surreal images. Homogeneous material values have affected our social system and identity, and I hope to encourage viewers to question the world's current consumption structure.
