The next-generation consoles are here. The Xbox Series X launched globally on November 10 and the PS5 launched on November 12 in the US. The rest of the world, including the UK and Europe, will be able to purchase a PS5 from November 19. And it turns out they are already having problems.

While the cause of this problem is not clear some had speculated that is all cause of one game: Marvel’s Spider-man Remastered. It’s not a failure on the game but the editor of Giant Bomb Jeff Gerstmann said “Seems like putting a PS5 into rest mode while Spider-Man Remastered is running crashes the whole system” Once again the relation between the game and the issue its pure speculation but for now to avoid the problem until a hotfix is released its recommended that you completely exit the game when finished playing. 

Now let’s talk about the Series X, that already released but has also been having some major issues.

There’s one video going around about the Xbox with what looks to be smoke coming out of the large vent. But, you guessed it, it’s fake. 

It was later confirmed by users on Twitter that the video can be replicated via blowing Vape (the electric cigarettes) into the console. Twitter user MaxL¡oN posted a video probing it. 

However, even though the video is fake that doesn’t mean that people are not having issues with Series X. People were having issues just starting the console. Once you start the console it would go into a loading screen that would never end. it was later revealed that the servers for the Series X were down and that it needs an internet connection to the server the first time you log in.

Other users reported that the console would overheat when launching the newly released next-gen consoles: Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. Even if you set the graphics setting to a low resolution the game would shut down after just a few moments of play.

Other users would have the same problem but to the extent of the console never starting again. Microsoft Xbox’s Support latter acknowledge these problems and twitted a response.

There are problems with the new consoles but other than a few bad apples the consoles are working fine and problems on the release are to be expected at launch. Back in 2005 the Xbox 360 launched with a 50% failure rate, with the legendary circle of the dead that would appear in the red lights of the console. That hardware issues ended up costing Microsoft over a billion dollars.

The PS3 also had the same kind of issue but that was much less of a problem in comparison. Most recently the Nintendo Switch had some joy-con issues, with some of them ending in lawsuits against Nintendo. 

Once again problems in the new systems are to be expected and both Sony and Microsoft are replacing the faulty consoles. But these things always start like this. Mayor systemic issues could come in later stages of the consoles. 

We’ll have to wait and see.
