Rebranding steirischer herbst

For my master thesis I did a redesign of the Graz-based contemporary art-festival steirischer herbst. I reworked the logo, fonts in use, colors, imagery, icons, merchandise, folders, a catalog… everything there is for such a large-scale event. The redesign evokes a new feel which was fitting the festivals 2019 edition Grand Hotel Abyss, yet has enough elements and variability to be altered in upcoming editions of the festival, hence providing a memorable and iconic look for Europes oldest art-festival to date.

Nora Kaszanyi's striking Gaia is used as basis for the decisive look-and-feel which ultimately resulted in section-specific icons and symbols for the festival. Unique color-combinations are also used as easily accessible marking-sections throughout the branding, providing the reader with easy to understand hints in which sections he is currently reading, while also displaying different information. One of the main goals of the work was to establish a clear information hierarchy, which is also visually pleasing to the attendants.
