Designing icons is certainly not my strength, so I was really struggling with today's design.

Recently I have been studying Japanese as quarantine self-care. I fell deeply in love with Japanese culture and decided to design icons for a Japanese language studying app.

Ideation:

I incorporated three Japanese characters for each icon (Tsu, Ai, A in case you are wondering) and modify them accordingly.

3 icons: I wish to design for three different age groups.

The first one is for younger generations (below 18) who are more sensitive to graphics, the smiling face will attract them to click and try;

the second one is for adults who are more get used to emojis and have already developed interests in Asian culture, the LOVE theme is also more likely to resonate with people from all walks of life and different parts of the world;

the third one is for elderly who might be interested in calligraphy, I deliberately make the character a little bit bigger to promote accessibility.

Colors: Traditional colors of Japan are incredibly beautiful and elegant. All of the colors I used here are from the chart (including the background color).
