Our lives were significantly changed after the COVID-19 outbreaks. Touching your face with hands becomes a taboo, and wearing a mask/face cover when you go out is the new norm.
As Coronavirus spreads, so does xenophobia and anti-asian racism. Even in NYC, the city of diversity, I witnessed xenophobic violence and discrimination linked to the Covid-19 against Asians and people of Asian descent have been spreads. As an Asian-American artist, feminist, Christian, Marxist, mother of one, who is living in American society in 2020, I’m conveying a positive image and peaceful message during this dark time.
In this series of work “Baby: Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)”, you can find small baby hands on top of the mask. These are molded and casted of my child’s hand when he was 3-month old. and combined with a facial mask designed for Coronavirus to create new dialogue. Combination of the most harmless, the baby’s hand,  and mask bring
The mask reflects the reality of the COVID-19 outbreak and symbolizes the threat of the world. Through the combined image of a mask and the baby’s hand, as a symbolic representation of the most harmless and purest, visualizing the harmonization of the irony and incongruity of the reality that we have faced through the lens of abjection.
